It might be a little incongruous to put butterflies and snowy owls in the same piece, but I'm still sorting through pictures from a few months ago, and want to add something more current at the same time.

Cabbage Whites matingI had never before seen butterflies mating, so to catch two Cabbage Whites willingingly posing for me in our back yard was a thrill. At a distance, they're a drab white to me, but when they pause on a plant long enough for a few shots, their brilliance becomes apparent. Their eyes have a soft green tone with pastel like spots, their bodies a dusting of spots, and their bodies a soft colouring as well. Lighting can bleed the colour from them, or enhance it - depedending on the intensity and the angle - but it's worth playing around to get a good shot.

Painted Lady butterflyI had also never seen Painted Lady butterflies before, and though I first thought they were faded Monarchs, I was quite impressed with the beauty of these visitors.

Snowy OwlsAnd finally, we caught a number of great shots at Boundary Bay Regional Park in Delta. I'd like to say the Snowy Owls were the highlight of the day, but there were so many show stoppers, that it's hard to put my finger on just one. I'll be posting more from Boundary Bay as soon as finish adding shots from the past few weeks.
